Theoretically I could switch to the MacZFS Prototype. As MacRumors pointed out, the MacZFS open source project is also continuing development on the original work done by Sun and Apple. The project is kinda dead, and the current version does not work under Mavericks beta releases so far. A Developer Edition will provide devs with “conventional ZFS command line tools,” GUI options, and customization options. Other products will follow including a $40 Gold Edition and a Platinum Edition with support for RAIDZ and other advanced features. The Silver Edition is just the first product from Ten’s Complement and includes basic ZFS support for $19.95.

Two years later, Brady and Ten’s Complement are bringing ZFS support to Mac OS X with the company’s latest project, ZEVO Silver Edition. Most developers are only familiar with the integration process for their operating system of choice. For example OpenZFS on illumos must follow the illumos integration process because it is part of the larger illumos operating system repository. This was all before the OpenZFS project was an option, and seeing as how. I've since moved on to using the FreeBSD kernel with a full-fledged implementation. It's stable, but was (and still is) a minimalistic implementation, lacking most of the features found in modern ZFS releases. In 2014 the effort was resumed, partly based on the ZFSOnLinux repo, under the name OpenZFS on OSX, which continues to this day.
